The 1897 Russian Empire 1 Rouble coin was issued during the reign of Emperor Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia (1894–1917). This coin was struck in silver and was part of Russia’s monetary reform of 1897, which introduced the gold standard to stabilize the economy. The reform fixed the value of the rouble at 0.774 grams of gold. These coins circulated until the Russian Revolution (1917), after which the monarchy was overthrown, and the Soviet regime eventually replaced imperial currency.
